The recent CEO Roadshow was an opportunity to engage with intermediaries, share plans and celebrate achievements.
More than 2 000 intermediaries were reached with SPF Distribution’s CEO Roadshow, which took place in July as part of Sanlam’s centenary celebrations. Along with top clients and key stakeholders, they enjoyed the opportunity to engage with Group CEO Ian Kirk, who offered an overview of the Group’s performance and insight into future plans.
Ian also shared how the Group intends to continue building its legacy, making a difference to its clients and the countries in which it operates.
The sessions provided information to help intermediaries understand the evolving expectations and perceptions of many of the Group’s stakeholders.
‘As this is a special centenary year for Sanlam, we extended the duration of the annual CEO Roadshow to include smaller cities and towns,’ says Jaco Coetzee, Chief Executive: SPF Distribution. ‘After the intermediary roadshow we also held networking events, to which we invited key stakeholders and clients.’
The roadshow visited Polokwane, Klerksdorp, Nelspruit, Durban, Bloemfontein, Johannesburg (two sessions), Pretoria, East London, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town (two sessions).
Joining Ian were SPF CEO Jurie Strydom, Andrew Coutts, Head: Intermediated Distribution at Santam, and Sanlam Investments portfolio managers Fred White and Ralph Thomas. Following each presentation, Jacques Coetzer, GM: Sanlam Broker Distribution, or Theesan Moodley, GM: Sanlam Financial Advisers, facilitated an open dialogue that provided a valuable opportunity to share knowledge and influence views, behaviours and actions.
‘The CEO Roadshow is an opportunity to look ahead and share our thinking and plans about the future for Sanlam, SPF and Distribution,’ Jaco says.
‘Sanlam is the only large insurer that continues to do an annual national roadshow where the Group CEO and SPF CEO take time to engage in meaningful conversations with our intermediaries. It’s a way to remain in direct contact with our people and understand what’s happening on the ground and in the market.
‘We can be very proud of reaching 100 years. We have a wonderful history with many highlights and have outperformed our competitors significantly under tough conditions. We used the roadshows to say thank you to our intermediaries for their support and to celebrate our achievements.’
Feedback from intermediaries was very positive, Jaco says. ‘They valued the opportunity to have direct access to the Group CEO and other executives and appreciated Sanlam’s transparency and clear vision. People who join us for the first time often refer to Sanlam as the “best-kept secret” as we don’t usually boast about our achievements and competencies.’
Jaco says the motivation and inspiration intermediaries take from the roadshow could potentially result in the positive message reaching more than 1 million clients.
What’s pleasing, he says, is the fact that intermediaries remain positive in a challenging market. ‘They shared their concerns about the negative impact that politics has on the economy and our business, but they’re not negative about Sanlam or the future. And although we’re experiencing tough circumstances, we’ve had a fantastic year so far.’
